Las Vegas: Hub of Ricin and Chocolate

choco-jean.jpgLas Vegas is a city of extremes. That’s why, after living there for 12 years, I love it and hate it. Just about any of America’s Most Wanted criminals has ties to Las Vegas. The city seems to breed sin. Its nickname is Sin City, so what else would you expect.

Most recently, ricin was discovered in a Las Vegas hotel room. To me, it’s not unusual that ricin, a deadly poison, was found. There have been plenty of other gruesome findings in a Las Vegas hotel room.

But there is a soft side to Las Vegas. The desert for one. Nothing beats a car ride to Bonnie Springs. Then there are the people who try to create community ties and establish culture, culture that isn’t gambling–poetry, music, art, you know, the meaningful stuff.

Food has flourished. Las Vegas has evolved into a dining capital with name chefs opening up fancy restaurants. Which brings us to chocolate. Chocolate cafes are popping up in the city, long-time home to the Ethel M Chocolate factory (actually in Henderson, a burb).

Good chocolate. Potent ricin. Just par for the course in Las Vegas.
